About Laura

Occupational Therapist

Hi, I’m Laura!

I completed  my Bachelor of Health Science (Occupational Therapy) degree through Auckland University of Technology and I am New Zealand Registered Occupational Therapist (NZROT). Prior to starting university I had spent many years teaching gymnastics and swimming to special needs children as well as doing some care giving which led to her dream of working in paediatrics. I gained my first role in paediatrics in 2013 where my passion for Sensory Integration developed. Learning how the intricate sensory systems impact every aspect of people’s lives, and that I could make a difference for my clients was so rewarding. This then led to work in another private setting where I helped develop a kindy for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) which I was incredibly proud of, to see the children take part in activities that they hadn’t been able to do in the past was something I will never forget.

I believe that a family centered approach is crucial to being a successful therapist and helping my clients reach their maximum potential. Within my therapy sessions I use a play based approach which keeps the sessions fun as well as therapeutic. I also find it very important to collaborate with my client and their family to find a way to make therapy as manageable and fun for everyone.
